Language activities

Every Wednesday we explore new sounds and words in a range of different play contexts.  We are learning to become increasingly independent at doing this.  Today our activities included: bingo, glittery g’s, roller paint, shaving foam, mini whiteboards, the story corner and writing.  We also spend some time with Mrs Duncan doing our reading books.

We used roller paints to write our tricky words today.

We also learned how to correctly form the letter ‘g’ by making glittery green g’s.  We found it quite tricky correctly forming this letter.  Please help your child with this if you notice them struggling at home. We call the letter g ‘a caterpillar letter’.  We do the curly c caterpillar first before going straight to the top, then following the path back down and doing a naughty kick.  Your child should be able to do this if they are reminded.  You could try getting them to draw the letter in the air, on your back, in a tray of flour or on a steamy mirror or window.

Flying Superheroes

The children had expressed an interest in finding out about flying Superheroes.  This links well to Science curricular outcomes.

We are going to be focussing on Science superhero activities over the next few weeks with a particular focus on how different forces  such as gravity, pushing and pulling can have an impact upon a moving superhero.

Today we made Superheroes out of kitchen roll tubes.  We found it quite tricky to draw on these as we have not drawn on curved shapes often before.  It required some problem solving! 🙂

We plan to take these Superheroes to the forest on Thursday.  We are going to use string and branches to experiment with how we can make them fly.  We are all very excited about this (Mrs Duncan included!)

‘Ee’

The elephants are learning the ‘ee’ sound.  Today they drew around their feet and decorated them with ‘ee’ words and pictures.  They are becoming increasingly confident using two-letter blends (diagraphs).

Homework wb 2.11.15

– Superhero targets – please see previous post.  Try chatting to your family about your Supehero target and talk about how you could try and achieve it at home.

– Reading will be on Monday and Wednesday this week.   Tuesday and Thursday for the pandas.

– Elephants – new words and new sound ‘ee’.   These will be issued on Tuesday. Please try making ee words using magnetic letters or scrabble letters.  If you do not have these at home you could use this website instead:  http://www.ictgames.com/foamPhonemes/index.html

You could try and spell feet, meet, keep, cheese (remind of silent e),  sleep, sheep, sweets etc.

– Pandas and Tigers.  This week is a revision week.  Please revise all sounds and words.  You could try making some three letter words using the sounds. Try using magnetic letters or scrabble letters.  If you do not have these at home you could use the website above.

Flying Superheroes

We have 25 new superheroes at Cults Primary.  Each superhero has made a promise/target to try and ensure they are behaving like superheroes.  They have made promises to be kind, helpful, brave, strong or fast.  Please ask your little Superheroes what their superhero promise is and they can try hard to achieve it at home too.

We have displayed all of our flying superheroes and their targets over the city landscape that we made at the beginning of the week.  Don’t they look fantastic?!

The Superheroes also worked hard to write their targets with increasing independence.

Forest update

The children are desperate to go to the forest next week.  We will now be going to the forest on Thursday 5th and Thursday 12th November.  The parent helpers that were due to help this week are still able to help next week.  We still require 1 additional parent helper for next week.  Please catch me at drop off/pick up if you are able to help.

I am aware many of you were able to help for our second forest session which was due to be next Thursday and is now Thursday 12th. If you are able to help with this please let me know.  Thank you and apologies for any confusion!

Our superhero book

After working so hard to make our fantastic superhero cars we decided to draw pictures of them.  We labelled our pictures so that our friends can copy our ideas when they are building.  We tried hard to sound out big words like batman! We are going to use our pictures to make a big book for our construction corner and then we can use it to build other superhero cars.  More pictures to follow…

Superhero transport

The children had asked to find out more about superhero cars.  They wanted to find out why they needed to be so fast.

Today we designed our own superhero cars using a range of construction.  There was lots of tricky problem solving to do and some very good teamwork.

Testing out our cars – do they go fast? How can we make them faster?

Measuring our cars using measuring tapes – this caused much excitement and is our new favourite tool in the construction area. 🙂

We worked hard to meet the targets that we thought we should have.  We decided the cars must be fast and that they should have a roof. image

Talking time

We have been having lots of talking time this week.  We are sharing our holiday stories.  The children have been full of excitement when sharing their news!

We are learning to listen to others and to try and extend conversations by asking questions. We put our thumbs up when we want to ask a friend a question.
