Easter Celebrations

Today we decorated hard boiled eggs as part of our Easter celebrations.  We have been learning why rolling eggs is significant at Easter. Tomorrow we hope to take our eggs to the field to roll them.  We are going to do this with P1W.  The Easter bunny might have visited the field before we go over! 🙂 Please ensure your child has a warm jacket with them to keep them cosy on their egg adventures.

Star Writers

We worked extra hard on our story writing this week because we were eager to be the star writers for open day! 🙂

This week we re-wrote the Easter story.  We all have a very clear understanding of at least one important part from the Easter story!

Here is our star drawer! Hasn’t Kian done a wonderful picture of Jesus? I love the expression on his face on the cross! 🙂

Wear a funny hat day

In addition to the open day, Thursday is also ‘Wear a funny hat day.’ This is in aid of a brain cancer charity and children are invited to wear a funny hat and bring £1 to school.  Here is a clue about Mrs Duncan’s funky hat (Axel – you will love it!)

The Easter Story

We have been learning about the Easter story.  We have been finding out why Easter is important to Christians.  We have been sharing our own experiences of celebrating on the blog and in class.  Please try to reply to the homework post about your child’s celebrations if you have not already done so.

We tried to re-tell the story in groups during a drama lesson outside.  Tomorrow we plan to write our own versions of the Easter story.  You will be able to see these on Thursday at the open day!

Open Day Reminder

Cults Primary School are having an open day this Thursday (24th March) from 9.15 – 10.30am and 1.45pm – 3pm.  All are welcome.  Please sign in in the dining room and enter via the main door.

P1D have chosen a variety of their favourite maths and literacy activities to share with you.  They will also be giving tours of their classroom to help you all have a clearer picture of what happens most days.  They have selected some art activities that they are eager for you to become involved in!  Parents are welcome to sign their child in/out of P1D to take them to visit siblings in other areas of the school.

Subtraction Activities

We have been learning to make our own subtraction sums in different play contexts. This involved much higher order thinking skills than if we had been given the sum by a teacher.  We have to carefully decide which number must go first and use the equals and subtraction sign correctly.  We hope to show you more about this at the open day.

Homework wb 21.3.16

Reading – we will try to get this done twice this week but this will be dependant on other activities that we are preparing for the open day.

Pandas and Tigers Sounds – please stick the 3 new sounds into the sound book. We are focussing on ee and oo this week.  You can watch ee by clicking here.

Elephants – new sound ue.  You can watch the latest alphablocks episode here.

Maths – Easter adding activity that was sent home. You will need your own dice to play this game. Try using the quick strategy we have learned for adding.  Remember to put the biggest number in your head and then count on using your fingers. If this is too tricky you could try using cubes, counters or coins to add the 2 dice together.

RME – Please reply to this post by sharing 1 special thing that your family do to celebrate Easter. We are learning to recognise that other people may celebrate in different ways so please also take the time to read the other response to your child. I look forward to reading all of your comments.

Taking away

In maths today we were learning to independently solve subtraction sums.  We used play dough, iPads, dice, songs and games to help us learn the key steps in solving a subtraction sum. We hope to share some of these activities with you on the open day.

Some me of us (the diamonds) even used our knowledge of taking away 1 to take away up to 100!

Literacy activities

Today we worked together to complete a reading task – a story path.  We had to carefully read Handa’s surprise with our friends and then drew and wrote parts from the story on the story path.  We had to make sure it was all in the right order which some of us found quite tricky.  We hope to do this activity with you when you come to open day next week.
