We have been learning about 3D shapes. Last week we made junk dinosaurs using 3D shapes. This week we will be going on a hunt for different 3D shapes inside and outside.
For homework please choose one 3D shape that we have been learning about. You could choose a cube, sphere, cuboid, cylinder or cone. Try hunting for that one shape around your house, in your garden or when you are in the car. Keep a total of the number you find and share it with your friends by replying to this post. You could tell us the shape you were hunting for and how many you find. I have replied to this post with an example. I wonder if we will find certain shapes more than others….
You may wish to use this video as a stimulus before beginning your shape hunt. Please click here.
Reading – we will have reading on Monday and Wednesday this week. All books will be collected on Friday before the mid-term holiday.
I chose cylinder and I found more than 12 of these just by looking out my window. I saw lamp posts, fence posts, car wheels and even the legs of my puppy! They are almost cylinder!
I looked for cylinders and found 18 in my kitchen. Lamp pole, kitchen roll, vase, oven door handle, photo tube, cooker buttons, toilet roll were just a few!
Well done! I wonder if we will find more or less than 18 when we go on a hunt in the playground this week! 🙂
I chose a cuboid. I stopped after 34 – cereal boxes, toy boxes, mattresses, chest of drawers, sofa cushions and lots more. It was fun looking for them.
Wow Holly! Well done! You are the shape champion for getting the most shapes so far! 🙂
I found 12 cuboids on my way home from school; chimney pots, fence posts, lamp posts, black cuboid bin and a hedge.
Well done Axel. That’s great that you managed to find so many different objects that were cuboid shaped. It’s a great idea doing your homework on the way home from school! 🙂
I decided to look for cuboids and found over 20 in our house! I found our bins, table legs, boxes of games, side units, our fridge and cupboards, shelves, banisters, lamp shades, my toy boxes, toy trains. And mummy has lots of shoe boxes – too many to count!! 😀
Thank you Harry – your post made me laugh! You have found lots of different things that are cuboids. Well done! 🙂
We looked for shapes in Costa Coffee. There were lots of cylinders – coffee cups, marshmallows, one big lampshade and six small lights hanging from the ceiling. Then we looked at the shapes of all the cakes. There were cuboid chocolate brownies and caramel shortbread, and cylinder lemon tarts and chocolate fingers. Yum!
I looked for cuboids around my house. I found 40 including the fish tank, dog crate, guinea pig hutch, table football, bedside table, chest of drawers, my jewellery box, my bed, my desk, a pencil case, a toybox, the microwave, the fridge, the kitchen cupboards, the toaster, a cereal box and the bars up the stairs! That was a lot of cuboids!!!!
Wow Elodie! You are the new winner for the shape hunt. 40 is the most that anyone has found so far. It sounds like you have lots of cuboids in your house. 🙂
Sorry Mrs Duncan Mummy forgot to tel you. We looked round the house and found about 50 cylinder shapes including candles, curtain poles and even our dog and cats tails.
Thank you Erin! Wow 50 is loads. You are the new winner for finding the most shapes! 🙂
I found 38 cylinders. Lots of logs for the fire! Candles, cups, vases, glasses, lampshades, lamps and a tube of sweets.
Thank you Enzo. You did great hunting! 🙂
I looked for cylinders (nearly two weeks ago) all over my house. I counted 74. My waterbottle, cables, radiator pipes, door handles, curtain poles, 4 table legs, paint pots, art paper roll, 2 light sabers, kitchen roll, the hoover hose, lamp shades, the towels rail in my kitchen has 30 bars and mum’s 10 fingers are cylinders too!
Well done Keir! Thank you for sharing what you found. 🙂
