Our next topic

Today we made a big decision.  We decided what we would like our next topic to be.  Suggestions ranged from people to cupcakes, space to Frozen.  We all made suggestions and then voted for our favourite idea.  We made a graph on the whiteboard to help us see which topic was the most popular.

The most popular topic was….. Dinosaurs and volcanoes! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Does anyone have ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ on DVD that we could borrow? It is a fantastic stimulation for dinosaur activities and discussions.

Christmas Party

We we all had lots of fun at the P1 Christmas party today. We played corners, musical statues, pass the parcel and had a dancing competition.  We all looked very smart in our fancy party clothes.  We soon worked up an appetite and went to the dining room to have some party food.  It was delicious!

A HUGE thank you!

I am absolutely overwhelmed by the very kind and generous gift I recieved  inside my christmas card from the children.  Thank you all so much!  It is greatly appreciated and I will attempt to spend it wisely! 🙂

Merry Christmas to you all when it comes.  Thank you for another super term.  Looking forward to seeing all of the children after the holidays.

Thanks again!

Much love,

Mrs Duncan

Optional Christmas Homework

There is no official homework this week.  Children can, if they wish, try some of the problem solving websites below.  They are ideal for encouraging a quiet moment during the Christmas mayhem! 🙂

Santa’s baubles – match up Santa’s baubles before the baubles build up.

Santa’s sleigh – try and fit all of the presents into the sleigh without leaving any spaces.  Try and cacth them before they run off the converyor belt.

Sugar, sugar – Mrs Duncan’s current favourite!  Try and draw paths so that the Christmas sugar falls into the cup.  All of the cups must reach sero before you can move onto the next level.

Symmetrical Christma shapes.

Patterns continued

We are continuing to learn about creating and continuing different patterns.  This early skills will help us develop our skills in recognising number patterns and sequences later.

Today we used different shapes to create shape patterns.  It was a bit trickier and we had to do lots of tricky problem solving.  We used a new shape that we are learning about – the hexagon.  Some of us combined different shapes and colours to make very complex patterns for our hats and gloves.

Cinema fun

This afternoon we had a very special golden time. We turned P1S and P1D into cinemas. This was a reward for our hard work at the shows this week.  We voted for our favourite films and could choose to watch ‘Minions’ or ‘Cinderella.’  We had popcorn, fruit and milk too. It was great and just what we all needed after a very busy week!

Homework wb 7.12.15

The most important piece of homework this week is to get lots of sleep!  We will need all of our energy for our 3 performances this week.

1.   Please keep trying to learn your song words.

2.  Ensure you have a clean gym kit in school by Tuesday at the latest.  This is for the school show.

3.  Try replying to this post with a comment telling everyone about:

  • your favourite thing this term
  • what you have tried really hard at
  • what you would like to do/learn next term

I really enjoyed reading all of your comments at the end of last term.  I look forward to reading your new comments.  Parents:  please do not write your child’s full name in the comment.  Thanks.

We will be watching a Christmas DVD in between performances on Thursday.  Please bring in any DVDs that you think the class might like.  They must have a ‘U’ rating.  Thank you.
