For maths week Scotland this year we were looking at the theme of Wild Maths along with Fin Finity, the Maths Week Scotland Mascot.<\/p>\n

In ELC they packed some snack and headed round to the secret garden for a swing in the hammock and to play some number games. The children love playing hide and seek in the garden so they hid all our number spoons round the garden and had to find them. They even hid with their numbers which was also super fun \ud83e\udd29 we love numbers!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Primary 1 and 2 went on wild adventures with Fin Finity.\u00a0 They started their Maths Week Scotland adventure to Edinburgh Zoo! They visited the penguins first and had to calculate how many fish the King, Gentoo and Rockhopper penguins needed to eat. They thought that drawing out fish might help them but soon realised it took ages\u2026so they counted 60 fish with cubes instead. They then found out that the King penguins would eat half of the fish, the Gentoo penguins would eat 1\/3 and the Rockhopper penguins would have the rest so they needed to work out what half of and 1\/3 of 60 was. After that they needed to find out how many fish to feed each penguin. They discovered that there were 6 King penguins, 5 Gentoo penguins and 5 Rockhoppers that were needing feed so we split our totals amount these. Lots of hard work!<\/p>\n

In Primary 2,3,4 they worked with their P6\/7 buddies to build different 3D shapes using playdough and straws. The children carefully recorded the shape they created, how many straws they used, and how many playdough balls were needed. The children had to problem solve and brain storm how to construct the 3D shapes without them falling\/breaking!<\/p>\n

Primary 5 and 6 also worked with their buddies on Fin Finity maths challenges, making symmetrical pictures.<\/p>\n

Finally on the Friday we invited parents into the school to have a go at some problem solving challenges, and even see if they could beat us at times tables!<\/p>\n
