OUR ACHIEVEMENTS 2024\/2025<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

At the start of the year we discovered that Port Ellen were a commended school in the Kew Gardens Endeavour competition!\u00a0 The competition was to find out about the secret life of trees in your local area and write about them.\u00a0 P67 had learned about how Islay has actual rainforests.<\/p>\n

The Islay Book Festival held a poster competition and\u00a0 April and Murdo were winners with their new designs for book covers for the visiting authors.\u00a0 We again took part in the Maths Inside photo competition at the start of the year for Maths Week Scotland and we achieved 4 highly commended awards- Rowan, Tilly, Findlay and Archie.\u00a0 We continued the maths success later in the year with the Scottish Maths challenge with 5 Bronze medal winners; Ella, Freddy, Archie, Elijah and Alfie and Hannah and Brody, who got a silver medal, went to Glasgow to collect their prizes.<\/p>\n

Soarcha was once again a winner in the Ileach front cover competition at Christmas.\u00a0 In May a group of P7 boys travelled with other Islay schools to Oban to take part in the Stemovators Sustainable School competition and shared their excellent design for a sustainable school.<\/p>\n

P12 worked very hard all year to raise money to bring over the London Natural History Museum’s travelling dinosaur show.\u00a0 This fantastic event included a visit from\u00a0 T-Rex in the school playground!<\/p>\n

Finally right at the end of the year our wonderful ELC team had an inspection visit from the Care Commission; we are very proud of the fact we got all very goods on the different areas we were inspected- well done team!<\/p>\n

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS 2023\/2024<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

MATHS INSIDE WINNING<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

At the start of the year we had the Islay book festival and visits from authors Sarach MacIntyre, Philip Reeve and Lari Don.\u00a0 \u00a0We had a big focus on reading in school this year, with many of the children achieving book badges from Blue Peter.\u00a0 We achieved our silver accreditation from the Reading Schools scheme in June, well done everyone!<\/p>\n

Holding a parent breakfast club we raised money for the STV breakfast appeal, we held a dance-a-thon to raise money for the Blytheswood Shoebox appeal, came to school in pyjamas for Children in Need and held a talent competition for Comic Relief.\u00a0 \u00a0Soarcha and Aaron were winners in the Ileach front cover competition.<\/p>\n

We continued the year in a\u00a0 mathematical frame of mind, taking part in the Scottish Maths Challenge and the Maths Inside Photography competition.\u00a0 In Maths inside we were 2023 Highly Commended School for Outstanding Engagement and Quality of Entries, Ellie Chandler was<\/span> Overall maths in <\/span>motion<\/span> Category Winner for her Bee flight maths, Aidan Ambrose was <\/span>Oot an’ Aboot Overall Category Winner for his archaeology photo and\u00a0 Brody Shakespeare was the second level maths in motion winner for his photography picture.\u00a0 We had commended photos from Jacob, Hugh, Thomas, Rachel, Archie, Jackson, Natalia and Rosie.\u00a0 Jacob, Hugh and Archie also achieved Bronze in the Scottish Maths Challenge, with Evie once again achieving a Silver medal.<\/span><\/p>\n

P67 kicked off the year learning about rights by visiting Jura Primary who had already achieved a silver RRSA and taking part in the Outright campaign writing to MSPs.\u00a0 This was part of a whole school effort to learn about our rights and in May we found out we had achieved a silver Rights Respecting Schools Award!\"\"<\/p>\n
