CHILD RIGHTS

THE UNCRC

Convention on the Rights of the Child_ The Children’s version

  • Rights are very important. They say what a human is capable of doing and not doing. You have them from birth until death.
  • Every child in the world NEEDS to know their rights, they are a set of rules that make people equal.
  • The UNCRC stands for United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child, they set out all the rights that children have… which is very important.
  • You also need to know your rights because you are a human being who deserves respect, dignity and protection.

The ABCDE of rights is created by Unicef and stands for:

  • A: Rights are for ALL children. UNIVERSAL
  • B: Rights are there at BIRTH. INHERANT
  • C: Rights CANNOT be taken away. INALIENABLE
  • D: Rights DO NOT have to be earnt. UNCONDITIONAL
  • E: All rights are EQUALLY IMPORTANT. INDIVISIBLE

At Port Ellen we are on a Rights Respecting schools journey to gain a Silver award.
