In April 2022 our Pre 5 children and staff moved in to a brand new Pre 5 unit. Our Pre 5 Unit is self-contained within an enclosed classroom in the main school building and has its own play area attached. We are absolutely delighted with this new space and the children and staff are really enjoying it.

Our Curriculum
All learning in the nursery takes place through meaningful, engaging play-based activities.
Our curriculum is centred on our children and their families. They are involved in the planning cycle to ensure relevance, enjoyment, personalisation and choice. Staff plan for depth, breadth, progression and challenge. Children are very involved in deciding what they learn about through using our floorbooks.
We arrange visits from visitors and outings to places of interest within the local community and places which the children have chosen. These visits help the children to appreciate the world of work and the beauty of our natural environment.
Outdoor Learning is an integral part of our curriculum at Port Charlotte. Children spend time outdoors every day except in extreme weather conditions, we have waterproofs and wellies for every child in the nursery. Parents receive a ‘My learning…’ sheet every month which outlines what their child has learnt, any next steps and how this can be supported at home. We use the Argyll and Bute developmental milestones tool to support cognitive, fine/gross motor, speech and language, emotional and social development. These are shared with parents and carers once a child has started Pre 5.
