Over the last 2 sessions we have been developing our use of the Emotion Works resource at Port Charlotte.
Emotion Works is an educational programme focusing on the development of emotional language and understanding using a visual curriculum showing how emotions work.
We have introduced the pupils to 5 different cogs to help them discuss emotions; emotion words cog, body sensations cog, behaviours cog, regulation strategies cog and the triggers cog.
These cogs are displayed in our school and nursery and the pupils take part in a variety of activities using them to help develop their understanding of their own and others’ emotions.
We also have daily emotional check-ins in our classrooms and our nursery to share how we are all feeling at various points throughout the day.
Lila, P5 says “I learned how to have stronger relationships with people. I have learned about empathy and emotion works helps us with our emotions.”
