In recent years there has been a surge of interest in Mindfulness underpinned by a growing body of scientific and clinical research evidence. Mindfulness is viewed as enabling an enhanced quality of life with greater emotional and mental wellbeing, increased levels of happiness, increased resilience, reduced levels of stress, better communication and relationships. These benefits are increasingly validated by empirically-based neuroscience.
Our school and nursery teaching staff have been involved in comprehensive training on how to deliver Mindfulness in a low-key, fun and engaging way with children. Staff really enjoyed the training and we are enjoying sharing mindfulness with our pupils.
Mindfulness is supporting our calm, kind and compassionate culture at Port Charlotte and all children are developing their skills on a daily basis.
We are currently embedding this further and staff and pupils are taking part in a new Mindfulness programme which involves taking mindfulness outdoors.
Kacper, P4 says “Mindfulness is something that trains your brain. It can help you concentrate.”
Archie, P5 says “I learned that accepting our feelings, showing we care and being kind and helpful all help our mental health.”
Here are P1-3 doing some mindfulness in class.
