The tourism industry in Scotland has been expanding in recent years; this pattern is expected to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism is a particularly significant employer in Argyll and Bute; with\u00a0<strong>17%<\/strong>\u00a0of jobs within the tourism industry compared to a national average of\u00a0<strong>9%<\/strong>. Studying travel and Tourism is therefore an ideal option for students in Argyll and Bute who want to prepare themselves for this growth industry.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils will learn and develop a wide range of skills, such as problem-solving and communication that will not only be useful within the tourism industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What will I study?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course is made up of four units. Successful completion of each unit will provide the student with six SCQF credit points. As this is the first year we are running the course pupils will be given the opportunity to complete two units.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travel and Tourism: Customer Service<\/li>\n<li>Travel\u00a0and Tourism: Scotland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Success in the course this year could possibly lead to the opportunity to complete the third and fourth units next year. Successful completion of all four units would gain the student a National 4 or 5 qualification.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travel and Tourism: Employability<\/li>\n<li>Travel and Tourism:\u00a0UK and Worldwide<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will learn about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>careers in the travel and tourism industry and the skills you\u00a0would need\u00a0to work in them<\/li>\n<li>job seeking skills relevant to the industry<\/li>\n<li>problem-solving and dealing with customer issues<\/li>\n<li>developing travel itineraries (planned routes or journeys)<\/li>\n<li>providing information on accommodation, activities, events and attractions<\/li>\n<li>communication skills,\u00a0customer service and promoting products and services<\/li>\n<li>travel and tourism in Scotland, and meeting customer holiday needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How will I be assessed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assessment will be based on a range of practical activities in real or simulated workplace settings. Teachers will observe and keep records of your work throughout the year.
