Physical Education

The Physical Education Department in Campbeltown Grammar School aims to give pupils a positive learning experience through a wide range of activities.  The subject develops practical and life skills which allow pupils to make informed decisions for their future health and wellbeing.

Every pupil in S1-S4 receives at least two periods of Physical Education in their timetable with S5’s and S6’s participating in a Health & Wellbeing rotation.

When pupils reach the end of S2 they can then choose the PE Elective which offers them a further three periods of PE per week preparing pupils for National courses in S4.

At certificated level, pupils in S4 will study either National 4 or National 5.  At National 5 pupils focus on completing a portfolio based on the Factors Impacting on Performance and participate in two one-off performances in activities where they feel most confident.

Pupils can then progress to Higher PE in S5/S6, where they will work towards an exam at the end of the year as well as two one-off performances in an activities of their choice.

Pupils also have the option in S5/S6 of completing Higher Performance Units where they focus on higher practical performance work.

Pupils in S5/S6 pupils can complete a Sports Leadership course in school after which they have opportunities to work alongside our community sports clubs as young sports leader volunteers.

In addition to learning and teaching in physical education the department offers all students opportunities to actively participate in extra-curricular clubs at lunchtimes and after school to further enhance their opportunities.

Pupils can also get involved in the Sports Council through the PE department as an important means of providing support to the department in the various events it runs throughout the year, helping to come up with ideas for improvements and importantly, to give pupils a voice in any changes they would like to see implemented within the department.
