In\u00a0<strong>S1 French<\/strong>\u00a0we cover units which include: Introducing self, descriptions, personality description, where they live (house, bedroom and furniture), pets, classroom objects, family members and the time. In\u00a0<strong>S1 Spanish<\/strong>, pupils cover introducing themselves, descriptions of personality, adjectives, family members, pets, personal information and giving opinions.\u00a0<strong>In S2 French<\/strong>, pupils cover my town, directions, opinions, making arrangements, ordering food and drink, daily routine, school subjects, after school activities, relationships with teachers, sports\/games and musical instruments. In\u00a0<strong>S2 Spanish<\/strong>, we cover units which include: Sports and hobbies, weather, seasons, free time, play musical instrument, present tense.<\/p>\n<p>In S3, pupils have a choice of continuing with either French\/Spanish or both. We follow the principles of Curriculum for Excellence. Pupils develop a deeper understanding of language and culture through topics covering the 4 contexts of Society, Culture, Learning and Employability.<\/p>\n<h2>Senior Phase S4-6<\/h2>\n<p>In S4 pupils will work at National 4 or National 5 depending on their performance over S1-3.<\/p>\n<p>Both National 4 and National 5 courses contain compulsory units.\u00a0These are:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Understanding language\u00a0\u2013 developing skills in Reading and Listening, and<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Using language \u2013 which develops Talking and Writing skills.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these are based around 4 theme areas:\u00a0<strong>Society<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Learning<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Employability\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>National 4 also has an\u00a0<strong>Added Value Unit<\/strong>\u00a0in which pupils research a topic and prepare a presentation on their findings in the foreign language.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>S1-3 Curriculum for Excellence In S1-2, pupils currently have 2 periods of French each week and 1 period of Spanish.\u00a0As they work through a variety of topics, the pupils are developing all skills in the foreign language.
