Beans and Bicycles

Week beginning 8.5.17

This week we have been learning about plants and the life cycle of a bean seed. We all planted a bean and we will take care of them by watering them and making sure they have enough sunlight. We have a diary to keep and will check on them weekly to see how they grow.

In our IDL this week we have been learning about the history of bicycles and we compared the Penny Farthing to a modern bicycle.

In numeracy this week we having been using different materials to help us with our subtraction sums.

 

 

 

 

 

Welcome Back

Primary One have had a wonderful start to Term 4, we have been busy learning our words and sounds everyday. We have begun to extend our sentences by using connectives and describing words. In Numeracy we have continued learning to subtract as well as add money and exchange coins to give the same amount.  We have sent home our jotters and workbooks to share our work with you this week.

During the first week back we went on a Spring walk around the school grounds and we discovered a Hedgehog had moved into the Hedgehog house in the woods.

Primary One had a vote and decided to name the Hedgehog Spike.

This term our IDL topic is Transport, we will be finding out how transport has changed over the years and this week we were learning about the invention of the wheel.

In Science we will be learning about plants and how they grow. We will be planting vegetables in the vegetable garden and looking after them.

In PE this term we are learning how to play Tennis, this week we have been working on our throwing, catching and balance skills.

Money, Time, Bugs and Elephants!

This week Primary 1 have been learning how to make 10p using 1p, 2p and 5p coins. We have also been learning to tell the time using digital and analogue clocks.

Our sounds of the week have been sh and ch. We had lots of fun finding things that begin with these 2 sounds and drawing pictures in our sound books.

This week when writing our news we had to write 2 sentences using a connective.

In art we were learning how to mix white and black paint to make different shades of grey, we then used the greys to paint an elephant.

In outdoor learning we have been learning about Biodiversity and we had a walk around the school grounds looking closely at the pond, wild meadow, Forget me Not woods and the banking.

P1 share their learning

This week Primary One have been busy rehearsing for our class assembly. We have been learning our lines and practising our song and dance. On Thursday we had a rehearsal in front of our P7 buddies.

On Friday we got to share what we have been learning in this terms IDL – Handa’s Surprise, with our families and the rest of the school. Thank you to everyone who came to watch and those who were unable can see pictures and videos on our school Twitter account.

 

 

P1 are Global Citizens

This week Primary One have been working outside with Mr Berry to plant new trees in Forget Me Not Woods. We have also been having fun outside discovering how the different types of weather feels on our face.

In literacy we have been sorting words into the correct order to ask a question.

This week in numeracy we have been working with money and we put our new skills to use on Friday with our Bake Sale. After we had sold our cakes we worked together to add up how much money we had made for the WWF. The final total was £148.50 – thank you to all who donated baking and thank you to all who purchased baking.  You can see pictures of our bake sale on the school twitter page.

Sounds, Words and Punctuation.

This week in Primary one we have been working hard to use what we have learned so far in Literacy. We made rhyming ladders, we played sound games, we made sentences using the words we can read and practised our handwriting and punctuation by copying these sentences.

In numeracy we continued learning our number stories to 10 and we have begun to learn about Time starting with Days of the Week.

In art we made baskets of fruit using collage materials.

Heid, Shooders, Knaps and Taes

This week we have been learning more Scots words with Mrs Simpson. We learned the songs  Head, Shoulders,  Knees and Toes and the Hokey Cokey in Scots.

We also made our pictures for the art competition. We used paint and collage to illustrate our poem My Wee Rid Motor.

In numeracy we have been learning our number stories to 5.

This week was also the first week of our new My Time activities and we signed up to either Role Play/Dressing Up, Movie Club, Construction or Board Games.

Happy New Year

Primary One have had a very busy first week back. This week we enjoyed listening to The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss. We made our own rhyming hats and we made rhyming books.

We have also had fun learning the words for the poem My Wee Rid Motor and the song Coulter’s Candy. We are learning these for the Scottish Afternoon as part of the Burns celebrations and for the Burns competitions. Mrs Simpson taught us some Scots words for Birds and Beasties.

We have also been learning some ceilidh dances in PE and this week our P7 buddies came and showed us one of the dances they had learned for their Christmas Ceilidh.

Merry Christmas from Primary One

It’s been a busy two weeks in Primary One with 3 Nativity performances, one of which was at Ardardan Estate, then a trip to the Panto at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow. This week we have had our Christmas Jumper day, Christmas Lunch and Christmas Church Service. We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and we look forward to sharing our learning with everyone when we return in 2017.
