We began by looking at a geological map of Islay and learning about the rock cycle, discussing how rocks can be igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic, including gneiss.<\/p>\n<p>On the beach we explored the rocks around us, thinking about sediment and separation and how plate movement over millions of years can cause rock formations to bend and buckle, shaping the landscape we see today.<\/p>\n<p>Later, we travelled to Port Charlotte where we became scientists and created our own mini volcanoes \ud83c\udf0b on the beach using baking powder and vinegar, which was great fun!<\/p>\n<p>The day showed how powerful outdoor learning can be, helping us to learn through real experiences in our local environment. It also links to the \ud83c\udf0d UNCRC, particularly Article 29, which supports our right to develop our talents and abilities through education.
