Barcaldine Primary school children were invited along to Sutherland\u2019s Grove on Tuesday afternoon to help plant Coastal Red Woods trees.<\/p>\n
The weather was a bit wet to start but it soon dried up and the children along with Forestry Commission Scotland Craftsmen\u2019s Peter MacArthur and Rory Maclean spent a couple of hours planting trees.
The Coastal Red Wood Tree is being planted in Sutherland\u2019s Grove to help sustain the forest. These trees grow to an approximate 50m tall and their bark is so thick that the trees can withstand a forest fire. Forestry Commission Scotland hope that this trees will gradually replace the trees that are falling down in our stormy weather.<\/p>\n
The trees will take up to 100 years to grow so it will be a story we can tell our grandchildren one day that we helped plant the trees in Sutherland\u2019s Grove.<\/p>\n
