\"\"<\/a>Every year the National Galleries of Scotland run a competition called Inspired? Get writing! for children and adults.\u00a0 Port Ellen has 2 successful poems.\u00a0 Abbie was a runner up with her Poem The Ghost Fiddler, inspired by a photo of Aly Bain by David Williams.\u00a0 Asher achieved a special merit for his poem Old Defence, based on a painting of Inverlochy Castle by Horatio McCulloch.\u00a0 Both have been invited to hear their poems read aloud at an awards ceremony at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh on the 17th April.
\nHere are the two poems:<\/span><\/p>\n

THE GHOST FIDDLER<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the center of a humid room,
\nSat a figure hunched close to his fiddle,
\nMoonlight gleaming, his body glows,
\nBody bitter and cold, heart scorched by music,
\nHis instrument in gentle, airy hands, notes drift like phantoms.<\/p>\n

The room awakens, comes alive,
\nLouder, louder, the room screams with anticipation,
\nIts eyes dance to the energetic melody,
\nThe soft, faint feet are tapping, thumping the rhythm,
\nAs the room dances to his tune.<\/p>\n

Stop.
\nThe room falls to a sudden stillness,
\nThe majestic figure sits in complete silence again,
\nDrifting away into the dark,
\nLike his last notes fading into the heart of the room.<\/p>\n

OLD DEFENCE<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

An elderly defence,
\nConfronting a forceful hill,
\nProtecting a village from destruction,
\nNow smoke stacks curl,
\nWeavers weave,
\nFishermen fish just for fun,
\nOnce mighty land of feasts and splendour,
\nIs now just a traveller\u2019s rest.
\nThe Loch is poisoned,
\nWith a potion of inattention,
\nBlinding one\u2019s eyes from danger,
\nDiscarding the view of marching armies,
\nWatching for unclaimed lands,
\nThe slumbering dragon rests behind,
\nIn a million year slumber it reposes,
\nPreparing itself for plunder,
\nA storm gathering, engulfing the sky,
\nLike wisps of a snoring volcano,
\nIsolating the village from help.
\nAs if on the banks of Loch Ness,
\nA stronghold remains searching,
\nFor a long ago enemy,
\nWaiting for its time to strike.<\/p>\n
