School is out for Summer! β˜€οΈ πŸ˜ƒ

Well, I can’t believe the last day of Primary 4 is here!

Everyone has enjoyed the Big Clean,Β looking after our classroom and school environment. Our Countdown to Summer with a balloon burst on Teams everyday has been exciting too!

This week we have loved our treats: An outdoor disco, water fight with pistols, a slushie drink to enjoy and a delicious ice-cream from the van today which was delicious! 🍦 πŸ’§ πŸ’ƒπŸΌ

It’s been an extremely tough year for all but I am so proud of each and every one of you, you have come so far this year and it’s been a privilege to teach you all. Everyone has coped and adapted to the Covid changes we have faced and above all, enjoyed your learning despite how different and challenging the year has been.

Boys and girls, School is out for SUMMER! β˜€οΈ πŸ˜ƒ

I hope that you all have a fantastic Summer; relax, stay safe with your families and have the best time together.

See you all when you return in August!

This week in Primary 4 ✏️ πŸ˜ƒ

This week has been an exciting week in Primary 4 with all kinds going on to keep us entertained. From today, and every day until the end of next week, we are on the Countdown to Summer. Today’s whole school treat was to β€˜Soak the Teacher’ and boy, did Primary 4 do a great job with those sponges!

On Monday, we enjoyed watching the Euros, cheering on Scotland and taking part in art activities to decorate the class and posters to cheer on our team. Throughout the week, Euros has been our mini topic, focusing on countries and continents and today, everyone thought their Euros festival lunch was delicious!

In Maths, we have been working hard completing our fractions topic, maths assessments and have been revising the four operations to keep mental maths fresh in our heads. In Health and Wellbeing, we have identified ways to look after our bodies, things that we do to keep clean and germ free and also the importance of online safety.

In Literacy, we have been developing our report writing skills, using the movie clip of Charlie finding Wonka’s last golden ticket as our writing stimulus as well as our Big Reading book. We are at the edit and publishing stages of our newspaper articles and they are looking fantastic. I can definitely see some of us being keen journalists in the future!

This week, In P.E we have put our ball skills to good use: travelling with the ball, using a variety of passes to our teammates – most importantly looking for a team mate who is in a good space and choosing the best pass to use. Our next step in competitive games is to mark a partner and steal the ball.

Sports Week πŸ…

Primary 4 throughly enjoyed being outdoors for today’s active challenge on the Trim Trail. Everyone took part in some challenges, boys versus girls and had fun playing even though we had some rain. Well done to today’s winners and to all for taking part. πŸ˜ƒ 🌲 πŸ§—β€β™€οΈ

This week in Primary 4 😁

This week, maths groups have developed their knowledge and understanding of the 10, 5 and 6 times tables. Everyone has created partner flashcards to test each other on what they know. Many of us have extended our learning to formal multiplication where we have applied our knowledge from addition to complete 3 and 4 digit multiplication sums. Let’s continue to practise everyday to keep this fresh in our minds!

I have been super impressed with the improved reading this week; listening for accuracy, fluency and expression. We are enjoying learning new tricky words and giving our partner a next step. Amazingly, many dojos have gone out to boys and girls for improvements in joined handwriting, accurate spelling and great grammar work. Keep up the good work boys and girls!

Everyone has enjoyed identifying and sorting living and non-living things into groups in Science – living and growing. We are looking forward to some interesting experiments to find out what plants need in order to grow and develop. With Mrs Davidson, we have been learning about similarities and differences in living things as well as stereotypes.

Primary 4 are making good use of the outdoor space to develop their ball skills – travelling with the ball and now practising their passes to a partner. We think Basketball is BRILLIANT!

Well done to this week’s Star Pupil RA!

Thriving Thursday πŸ˜ƒ

Primary 4 have been practising their multiplication strategies today for the 2 and 4 times tables – making links to division. I have been amazed to see such wonderful work and testing our partners in their knowledge.

Keep practising hard boys and girls! 😁

In Literacy, we have been tackling more tricky words in our reading and developing our comprehension strategies. This week, it’s been lovely to see everyone trying so hard to improve jotter layout and presentation too. Wow! 🀩

Our Easter line drawing are coming along nicely and we are almost ready to go into the background and then add our modern twist. 🐰

Today in Primary 4 ✏️

Primary 4 have been working hard on Multiplication, demonstrating counting forwards and backwards in 2’s and 4’s. We are using strategies to help us work out multiplication facts such as repeated addition. Some of us identified links to our previous learning of money where we used 2p coins to show our able facts. πŸ˜ƒ

Everyone agreed it has been great fun taking time out of jotter work to play our times tables games – helping us improve our accuracy. Don’t forget to practise at home tonight! πŸ‘πŸΌ

This afternoon, we shared our highs and lows of lockdown and made a comparison to how it was different from the first. We are using good self-management to produce high quality memory jars.

Health and Wellbeing πŸ˜ƒ

Happy Monday everyone! πŸ˜ƒ

Today Primary 4 added more detail to our Trees of life with Mrs Davidson and they are looking wonderful. 🌳

This afternoon, we enjoyed outdoor PE, practising our ball skills: dribbling, defending and trying to keep moving with increasing pace. ⚽️

Our PE days will continue to be Monday and Thursday outside so please make sure you have your outdoor jacket and full water bottle – the weather might not be as nice this week.Β  Currently, we are not in the gym hall taking part in Yoga due to COVID restrictions.

Our Maths focus for the rest of the term is Multiplication and Division. To help improve our mental recall, please practise your 2, 5 and 10 tables at home as much as you can. Why not give it go: in the bath, on the way to and from school, in the car etc. – every practise helps us to improve. If you feel confident with this please go on to 4 (double the 2 times table) then the 3 times table.

These resources will help too:

Red Nose Day 2021

Today Primary 4 had fantastic fun taking part in RED NOSE DAY 2021. We focused on Article 6, 23, 29 and 32 of the UNCRC and linked this to today’s Comic Relief activities.

Many of us shared or own thoughts and opinions in how Comic Relief donations help to improve the lives of others and the great support it gives to many families.

Here are some of our highlights…

Have a lovely weekend everyone! πŸ™‚
