Thornlie Primary Environmental Art

Mr McMahon and his P5s at Thornlie Primary School thoroughly enjoyed their day out at Juniper Artland. This outing deepened and extended their study of Environmental Artists.

The main focus of P5s Environmental Art topic was Andy Goldsworthy. The children made their own ephemeral art using the objects in their playground. The art was displayed, or filmed, or left to make its changing way in the world.

Inspired by their Goldsworthy Project, Mr McMahon and the P5 pupils have designed the Thornlie Trenchworks. This will be an ongoing installation designed to aid imaginative play, inventive bridge-building and creative physical activity.

The whole class, helped by Outdoor Artist Alan Kain, have had great muddy days digging out the initial foundations. Visitors were able to visit the site at Thornlie’s Creative Carnival in March, and the pupils hope that the Trenchworks will be finished in June.
