Fabulous French and Other Stuff!

This week we learned how to say the alphabet in French. We made up secret words to spell aloud using the French alphabet. Take a look at us trying to decipher the secret words!004 005 006 008 009 010 011 012

We also had fun participating in a French dance workout.

All About Alliteration

This week in class we learned about alliteration. Alliteration is the repetition of the same sound or letter at the beginning of each or most of the words in a sentence.

Tongue twisters contain alliteration. Try and say this popular tongue twister out loud!

Peter Piper

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

We wrote our own sentences using alliteration and some of us wrote poems containing alliteration. Have a look 002 005 006 007

“I liked the tongue twisters” J

“I found it quite challenging to link letters and ideas” K

In Maths, we worked out the perimeter of different shapes.

“In a square all the sides are equal so if we know the size of one of the sides we can times it by four and work out the perimeter” L

“I found perimeter easy” A

“It was hard to measure exactly using the ruler” E

We learned about triangles. Here are some triangle facts.

“There are 3 types of triangle, scalene, isosceles and equilateral” L

“In an equilateral triangle all the sides and angles are the same” E

“An isosceles triangle has two equal sides” R

“None of the sides are equal in a scalene triangle” E

Homework

We have completed a variety of homework tasks over the last two weeks. We created posters to persuade people to come to the Summer Fayre. I’m sure you will agree to come after reading them. I’m not so sure about soaking the teacher though!

We also wrote letters to the Pupil Council to persuade them to purchase items for our school playground.

Lastly we read a non fiction piece about the sun and sun safety. We decide to use our knowledge to create sun safety posters.075 076 077 078 079 082 083 084 085 086 087 088 089 010 008 009

We developed our presentation skills presenting our personal projects to our peers.

We alI learned lots of new facts. The visual aids, models, PowerPoints and books were super!

And…. we all enjoyed the ‘blood mobile’ song!

A busy week

May 26, 2016 by Miss Clemente | 0 comments

What a busy week we’ve had here in Primary 5.

We have been continuing to look at 3D shape.  We built skeletal models following instructions. We have also investigated nets and made our own nets of solid shapes, using rulers to measure.

In Literacy we have been making our own non-fiction books. Take a look at us hard at work.003 004 005 006 007 008 009 010 011 012

Solid Shape!

Today we identified, named and discussed the properties of a variety of different 3D shapes.

We learned what a hemisphere was.

We also learned to look at the base of a pyramid to help in the identification of it.

Afterwards we built skeleton models of 3D shapes. We worked in pairs.

We used a ruler to measure the straws needed to build our models. This ensured that our models were accurate. We then wrote about the properties of our models.

Take a look at us hard at work!

Marvellous Maths in May!

077092

Recently in class we have been looking at information handling. We have collected information using tally charts. We have displayed our information in the form of  a bar graph, line graph and pictograph. We have extracted information from pie charts. We have also worked together as a group to complete venn diagram tasks and had experience of using carroll diagrams.

I really enjoyed doing information handling. L

It was good, I thought that some carroll diagrams were a bit challenging. M

The venn diagrams were a bit tricky and that was a good challenge. S

I enjoyed asking people about their favourite fruit. A

My favourite way to display information was in bar graphs and line graphs. L

I liked collecting data from P7. R

April

During Art we looked at some paintings by the artist Keith Haring. Here are some comments about what we thought of his work.

“The colours are really vibrant” by A

“It is very simple” by R

“The people in his paintings look cool” by D

“The people have no features” by A

“The people look like they’re moving” by J

“He uses line” by L

We really enjoyed creating our own pieces of art work in the style of Keith Haring. Take a look at the examples below.
