S6 Caritas October Update

Over the past month, our S6 pupils have been very active in their School Community and Parish life. At the beginning of the month, 13 pupils were commissioned as Extra-Ordinary Ministers at our annual Community Mass. This is a great honour and responsibility for our pupils. During Newman Week, Bishop Toal visited the RE Department and met with Caritas pupils to discuss their faith and participation in the Award. At the end of Newman Week, pupils attended and participated within the annual Aid to the Church in Need Mass at Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral.

Another activity pupils have been involved within is working with our local Primary Cluster. Our former Holy Family pupils attended their former school recently to aid and support P7 pupils in their Pope Francis Award. To develop this amongst our pupils, Fr Stephen Reilly provided training and support as Retreat Leaders. Pupils at the beginning of next year will actively participate and  lead Sacramental Retreats at Newmains Pastoral Retreat Centre for our local primaries.

Overall a very productive month for Caritas, as we continue to demonstrate our gifts, talents and commitment to their faith and community.

Caritas Award Update September

Our Caritas participants have undertaken a wide variety of activities since the new session began in August. All of them are actively involved within school activities such as Enterprise, School Involvement and Play in the Sports Environment. Moreover, many of them have successfully obtained House Captain roles and prefect responsbilities.

Within the parishes, pupils have began to participate in many activities such as passkeeping, altar-serving and charity collection. Our Parish Priests are meeting with Caritas pupils this week to assign roles for all pupils and chat with them about their expectations for the year ahead.

Caritas Pupils 2014/15

So far the number of pupils intending in pursuing the award has been overwhelming and I encourage all pupils at this moment to engage with their Parish Priest and find out how you can assist and be involved starting in August.

End of Year Mass 2014

This afternoon, our school community came together to celebrate Mass for the end of term. Fr McGoldrick led the service, and in his sermon emphasised the need for God in our lives and using our gifts and talents in service to others. Mr Ross at the end of the service gave a speech thanking pupils and staff for all their hard work over the year. Lastly, Mr Smith donated cheques on behalf of the School Charities Committee to Mary’s Meals, SCIAF and St Andrew’s Hospice.

Mass for the Installation of Right Reverand Joseph A.Toal as Bishop of Motherwell

Cardinal Newman High School pupils attended alongside Mr Ross the Mass for the installation of the Right Reverand Joseph A.Toal at Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral last night. Pupils David Ellis and Jennifer McGilvary were directly involved in this celebration as they participated within the Offertory Procession. We offer our prayers up to Bishop Toal in his new position, and fortunate also that he has decided to live in St Gerards RC Parish house.
