About Our School

St. Ninian’s Roman Catholic Primary School serves the town of Newton Stewart and its surrounding area. We have a school roll of 27 children.

The school is some 125 years old but is not housed in its original building. Records show the school opened on January 21st 1877, with a roll of 54 pupils and was located adjacent to the present Church of St. Ninian’s in Windsor Road.

Since the closure of All Souls’ R.C. School, Wigtown, in June 2002, pupils now travel to St. Ninian’s from the Wigtown area and beyond. A school bus travels daily from Wigtown.

The present school shares the same ‘campus’ as Penninghame Primary School. Children eat lunches at Penninghame and share many of their facilities.

The acting Head Teacher at St Ninian’s is Mrs. Elizabeth Maclean who teaches P4 – 7  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Mrs. Linda Dobson teaches on Thursday and Friday and teaching P1-3 is Mrs.Lauren Crosbie.
