Pledge-a-plant

Would you like to pledge-a-plant for our front garden?

This afternoon the bark mulch was delivered, and on Sunday a small band of helpers will be making a start on clearing out the last of the weeds (Debbie Trower has already been doing a great job in this respect!) ready to put down a layer of newspaper topped with the bark.  We will then be ready to start on the fun bit … filling it with lots of lovely new plants!

As you may be aware, we are funding this project with the money we were awarded by the Windfarm Fund.  However, as the front area is actually quite large, all that money plus some more from the School Fund, has been spent on the bark so we have very little left for plants.  This is where we hope you might be able to help us.

We are asking members of the community to donate plants; these can be from your garden or the garden centre, we don’t mind.  It doesn’t even matter if you can’t donate it straight away; you can pledge-a-plant now and we’ll make sure we keep a space in the garden for it.

To give you a few ideas of what you could pledge, and also to make sure we get a nice variety, we have drawn up a plant wish list.  Once you have decided what you would like to pledge, even if you don’t intend to donate it ’til later, let us know by adding a comment to this post or giving us a call.  We will be creating a garden plan to show who donated what and where it’s planted – each time you walk past the school you’ll be able to look our for your plant!  To make it even more personal, why not look out for a species named after you!  Mrs Moyes is already thinking about pledging a rose called Rosa Moyesii.

Whatever you pledge we will be very grateful, so here’s our wish list …

  • delphinium
  • hollyhock

  • lupin
  • red hot poker
  • mahonia
  • dog wood
