Visit to HMT March 2018

We went to HMT because we were doing a play called Joseph and his Amazing Techicolour Dreamcoat.  We went in the backstage and we saw the washing machines and the trapdoor. The people who were telling us about HMT told us a story called Jake the ghost.

We also went in to the stage and they told us it had over 1,000 seats.  We went on the second top seats.  We went on the stage and there was also marks on the stage to tell people where the props went. There were special seating arrangements for the poor and the rich.  The rich sat near the bottom which had the best  view and the poor sat near the top which was called God’s seat and they crammed about 5 people onto one bench. Then we went on the best seats in the middle row which was on the same floor as the ground floor so they didn’t have to climb steps. On the side there was the Royal seats that were like balcony.

Our New Topic!

We are very excited to be learning about Ancient Egypt. Take a look at our mummies we made in class. As a class we have decided what we would like to learn about Ancient Egypt.

Literacy

Over the past few weeks we have been learning how to write persuasive writing. We have written imaginary letters to Lego complaining about faulty Lego and we have also created poster to persuade people to watch our stop-animation movies. Everyone has made a fantastic effort and we have had lots of star writers.

We have been enjoying reading ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ in class. So far we have created our own marvellous medicine recipes and we have learned a lot about how alliteration can make a piece of writing exciting. I hope most of you had a chance to read our marvellous medicines at the open evening!

Maths

In maths we have been revising whole number, including reading, sequencing and rounding numbers to the nearest ten and hundred. We are feeling much more confident now!

At the moment we are learning about different methods to add and subtract numbers. We have been using empty number lines, partitioning to add and the formal method (chimney sums) to help us. It is great to learn lots of different techniques as this helps us with our mental maths.

This term Primary 4 must practise their Learn Its and know the 3x table quickly and accurately. Please try to practise them as much as possible;

IDL – Lego Topic

We are enjoying our Lego topic so much! We have been very busy learning about where Lego originated, the history of Lego and we have taken part in design challenges, including moving a Lego car propelled by a balloon. This week we have been very busy filming our stop animation movies. We can’t wait to see what the final movies look like.

Health and Wellbeing

Primary 4R have been learning more about team games in PE and are currently trying out basketball. With Mrs Russell we have tried out throwing and catching as part of tag rugby. We have also been learning lots of new yoga poses!
